The annual Porterville Fair begins today! This year the city has changed it up a bit with new rides that are more carnival like. The slogan for this year is “There’s Magic in the Air at the Porterville Fair!” The fair will last from today May 14 through May 18 with hours opening Wednesday and Thursday 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m. On Friday and Saturday the fair will open at 8:00 a.m. and close at 12:00 a.m.

The fair always seems to be a place where everyone of any age can let loose. There are various rides to chose from, tons of games to play, and countless booths of sweets just perfect enough to rot your teeth but taste delightful at the same time. Also, no fair is complete without a huge Ferris wheel that’s perfect for couples.

Porterville has been working with Butler Amusements building all week to bring together the 19 new carnival rides that will be present at the fair. Butler Amusements started 40 years ago and has grown to be one of the largest carnival companies in the Western United States. They contribute to over 110 different fair events each year and their business expands to six other states aside from California, including Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada and Arizona; and Canada.

“The fair is so amazing!” Valerie Jasso, junior at Granite Hills, expressed her joyful views on the fair. “There’s always so much to do there, there’s something for everyone and it’s a perfect place to hang out and have fun with your friends when you can’t make it to Six Flags or something.

Indeed there are many things to see at the Porterville Fair. Aside from food booths, there are many others from organizations like the Kawanis Club and the Pleasant View 4-H Club. There are animals to be shown by the FFA (Future Farmers of America) and people seem to always love to visit them.
