One evening while visiting local Starbucks in Fresno , Calif., specifically in March 2007, 22 year old Steven Torres and 20 year old Chris Saenz sprouted the idea to begin a band. After the two decided to mold their music after Torres’ previous bands, True Shot Heroes & Rhetorics of Society, they were on a hunt for more band members. Many musicians tried out, but none seemed too dedicated to the band and eventually stopped showing to practice. Soon enough they gained 20year old guitarist Matt R. Things seemed complete so far.

But no band is official without a name. So one day when Chris and Steven where on their way home after coming from a local casino, they began tossing around names, looking for something that would rightly define their music. They came to the understanding that their music was “too punk to be pop punk but too poppy to be punk, not enough screaming to be screamo,”  suddenly they realized that they have “"DEPARTED" from "ALL THINGS" meaning [they did] not [belong to a specific] genre really its just music that [they] like.” From all that contemplation, they settled with the name, All Things Departed, and have been that since then.

All Things Departed was in full swing. Steven’s incredible riffs and beautiful vocal chords along with Chris’ insane soothing drums and Matt stealing hearts in lead with guitar infested their practice room in Steven’s house. But it seemed ATD was lacking a little something, they needed a bassist. Friend Justin Thomas joined the others and they began playing again with their new seemingly permanent bassist.

Then one day, Justin decided to just leave ATD and join another local project. His departure left the rest of the guys with many questions on their mind, but they decided to just let him go his way. But with every loss there is a gain. Many musicians tried out, and yet again not many stayed consistent to the band. “Ex-band mates (Rhetorics of Society) Steven and Mike Flores telephoned each other to catch up on life and learned what the other was going through musically. Eventually a proposition was made and so the current and permanent line up was solidified,” informed drummer, Chris Saenz.

ATD was set, new 19 year old bassist Mike was ready to go and stayed true to the band. So now it was time to start playing shows, live shows. The first show they played was in their hometown of Fresno at local high school, Hoover High. “[The show] went pretty well,” informed drummer Chris Saenz. “[We] had a good crowd, listening and watching and moving. That’s always good.” “We have just started getting shows but just this month we have 4 shows,” informed Saenz, “and next month 2 shows and more to come so were getting busy as far as playing shows.” ATD’S next closest appearance near Porterville is in Hanford. They will be playing on February 16.

The show is being hosted by Estavan Mendez at his house located on 10883 Beverly Drive , Hanford CA 93230. Featured bands include the following: All Things Departed, Fishing With Shotguns, Fallen Pilot, Cityfire, and The Brighton Line. It is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. and kids are expected to be gone by 9:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to go, except for any children under 14 and the cost for the show will be $5 at the door and there will be a strict in-out policy to maintain order. Also, drugs, alcohol, and fighting are strongly prohibited.

The Gazette encourages all who can make it to go show their support for these bands.
