While most students were still in bed at 6:15 a.m. on Friday, October 19, the Granite Hills Chamber and Concert Choirs arrived at GHS to leave for the fall festival at Fresno State. Both choirs were arranged for the first session of the event at 8:15 a.m. in the concert hall at the Fresno State University.

Granite was not the only school scheduled for the 8:15 session, both, concert and chamber choirs from Woodville, and one choir from Fowler were also planned for this time period.

Each choir from Granite Hills sang three songs, concert choir was up first, they sang “Hush (Somebody’s Calling My Name,)” “Set me as a seal,” and “Lacrymosa. Chamber choir followed directly after they sang Dulaman, How can I keep from singing and Give me Jesus.

The main idea of this festival was to be watched by the four judges, Dr. Anna Hamre Choral activities director at Fresno State, James Fox past director at Clovis High and present Teacher at FS, Dave Hensley PC and FS teacher, and, Tony Mowrer Professor of Choral studies at FS and receive helpful ideas to improve as a choir.

They had given the GHS an “excellent” for the performance they had given. However, there was one thing the judges suggested that the choir do to advance their abilities as a group and that was to sing “energy.”

When Ms. Effseaf was asked how she thought her choirs did she said “I thought we did a pretty well job” she also had said she thought it was a starting point to move up and for the first festival with these choirs she felt good about their performance.
