The Rock, January 25th

The Lindsay venue The Rock had a show on Friday January 25, the bands were scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m., and doors were supposed to be open by 4:00 p.m. for the early crowd. But for some unknown reason, nothing started until 7 p.m. The Rock’s management has slowly been going down the drain; it seems that none of the coordinators are really dedicated to hosting shows in a professional manner.
Things were unbearably slow in the beginning, and pretty much stayed that way once the first scheduled band, My Last Chance, began to play. There wasn’t much life springing from the crowd, most people just stood around and tapped their toes to what they wished would have been a great performance. Nonetheless, when you don’t sound good, you can always result to wardrobe. Their clothes consisted of matching duds; that was something to look at. They all wore white pants and blue shirts, the vocalist wore opposite of the guitarists. It seemed more over played than some sort of fashion style.
Their big curly hair and matching clothing gave a nice hint of today’s UK Indie bands, even though their sound did not pertain to exactly what the UK. Their indie like sounds did not mix well with break downs usually heard from the hardcore. The kids looked like they were being distracted by the other things around them, that is a really bad thing for the band and its reputation.
“It was really slow in the beginning, but once Picture Atlantic started playing, the energy in the venue seemed to start up, so in the end it was good.” said Merrissa Camerena
It wasn’t until melodic no vocals bands Hasbeens and Wives took the stage and the crowd became really interested. The still zombies started to awake, there was more movement from the crowd compared to previous band, My Last Chance. Their unique sound filled the room, and things were just starting. The majority of the crowd came to slam dance, the rest just stood around tapping their feet and nodding their heads to the lovely melodies that were lost in the air with bands such as Picture Atlantic.
Picture Atlantic is the sort of band that everyone can sit and listen to. Even the die hard slam dancing kids got into it. “Having them in Lindsay is always fun,” commented Ty McDonald. “It’s always nice to just relax to them before a big hardcore band comes to play. Then, all insanity breaks free when they come to stage.” Picture Atlantic really changed up their style a bit from their last show in Lindsay. The atmosphere in the room was so happy and gave off the aura of ready-to-feel-free fun; everyone just had a smile that made them appear like all their worries washed away with all the catchy tunes and good vibes flowing through room.
Towards the end, excitement really erupted, kids filled the room. It seemed there were twice as many as from when it started; even other bands joined in on the dance floor when the only hardcore band Prima Nocta took stage and begun playing their heavy riffs and loud vocals. The kids’ energy was pulsing through their veins and they began to dance. The end of their set left some kids disappointed, they were yearning for more. But they’ll have to wait til the next Rock show which will be held on February 15; at this show there will be harder bands. Hopefully the Rock will redeem themselves then.
