Easter Eggs
Marie Aromin |03/18/08 | Grizz Cuisine

What You'll Need:

  • Jumbo Eggs
  • Water
  • Pan

To dye:

  • 1/4 tsp Food Coloring
  • 3/4 cup Hot Water
  • 1 tbsp White Vinegar
  • A cup to submerge the egg in

If your diet is in a little need of protein, by far, this is an easy way to get your daily dose.

There are several ways to make a hard-boiled egg.
But there are several rules that apply to most directions in making them.
So here are the basics:

For one, you fill the pan with water, put in 3-5 eggs, but make sure each egg is flat and not stacked up on another egg.
Then, add more water until the water is about one inch over the eggs (when the eggs are completely submerged in the water).

From there, there are various ways in which to cook them. I will give you two examples.

Example 1:
Cover the pot with a lid, and bring the water to a boil over medium heat.
As soon as the water comes to a full boil, remove the pan of eggs from the heat and let stand.
From there, let the eggs sit in the water for 1 minute to up to 17 minutes. The more you let it stand in the water, the harder they will get.
Then, drain the hot water, and replace it with cold water (you can add ice too).
To tell when they are done, you should be able to pick out the eggs with your fingers without burning them.

Example 2:
Follow the same general directions.
Then bring the water to a boil, and let it boil for about 12 minutes.
Remove from heat.
Then make sure you quickly submerge them in cold water.
You can tell these are done in the same fashion as the previous example.

From there, you can dye your eggs!

For each color measure 1/4 tsp. food coloring in small
bowl/cup. Add 3/4 cup hot water and 1 tbsp. white vinegar
to each color. Add eggs and allow to sit until they
are the desired color. Then remove carefully and allow to dry.
A slotted spoon* will work best to take them out.

And when you get hungry, you can take off the shell and eat them!
You can also add salt and pepper to taste.

So there you have it! I hope you guys all have a good Spring Break and/or Happy Easter! ^_^

*Slotted Spoon: a "spoon" made of plastic or metal that has slits in it.
This is used to hold and drain the eggs withougt getting dye on your fingers. (you can google images of it)
