"Broken pavement,
Cracks in the road
Dust at my feet,
As I make my way home"

The Highway
Tawny Barton | 02/11/08 | Poerty

Broken pavement
Cracks in the road
Dust at my feet
As I make my way home
The wind in my face
Does nothing to relieve the heat
So hot-
I can see the waves of the black horizon
The sun beats down
It mocks me
Taunting
Reminding me of the time
High Noon
I can't stop anytime soon
My feet keep moving
My mind grows weary
My muscles hurt
My eyes get teary
The clothes on my back
Feel like the weight of the world
The hair in my face
Has begun to curl
Staring ahead, my eyes are like stones
Everything would be better
If I could just make it home
I pass crooked houses
On an empty street
The only friends I know
Are my broken feet
And still I trudge along
Singing this God-forsaken song
As I make my way home.
